Naturhistorisk  Museum Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest natural history museum, has embarked on an ambitious project to build a new Nature and Science Museum on the waterfront of the city. Cultural Innovations were appointed Lead Consultant in 2023 to develop a  Interpretive Masterplan for the new museum, whose vision is to promote and spark curiosity and joy in nature and natural science for all.

Interpretation Masterplan

The Masterplan included developing the museum’s vision and mission, audience development and the visitor experience, including content theming, public programmes and learning plans. User journeys and functional briefs were created to inform architectural development of the new building.

Vision Brochure and Concept Visuals:

Cultural Innovations designed an eye-catching Brochure and concept visuals to bring the museum’s bold new vision to life, showcasing the exciting future experiences as well as informing stakeholders on their next steps.

Operations & Business Planning:

In addition, CI looked holistically at the proposition to create operational and business models to sustainably run and maintain the new museum. Project delivery plans defined the staff resource required to prepare for the move as well as operate the new museum and finally, the masterplan provided recommendations for next steps on the museum’s exciting journey and a brochure aimed at funders and stakeholders.

This holistic Masterplan will be a critical strategic document to support fundraising efforts, ensure alignment of different workstreams and guide the project in a clear direction as it moves forward into future stages.
