Cultural Innovations have recently completed the development phase of a Heritage Lottery Fund submission for the Museum of the Order of St John. St John’s Gate is a 16th century grade 1 listed building. The aim of the project is to reveal the integrity of the original buildings to emphasis their role in the history of the Order whilst providing an appropriate and exciting location for the display of the collections. The main structural work required to achieve this involves the removal of the majority of the 20th century building interventions. This will facilitate the installation of a double-height, glass ceilinged gallery allowing for an uninterrupted view of the original Tudor brickwork. Cultural Innovations’ scope during the development phase included the procurement and management of a consultant team to see the project through to RIBA Stage E. If the submitted development phase application proves successful CI will be continuing their role at the Museum of the Order of St. John through to project completion in April 2010.
