Museum of the Order of St. John
The Open Gate, Museum of the Order
of St. John
London, UK

Housed in a 16th century grade 1 listed 'Gate' in Clerkenwell, the Museum of the Order of St John is described by the Priory Librarian, Dr. Alan Borg, as 'one of the great hidden treasures of London'. The project aims to raise the profile of the institution by revealing the integrity of the original buildings to create a more coherent and exciting exhibition space for the Museum’s extensive and unique collections.

The new Museum tells the story of the ancient Order‘s history through the three themes of faith, care and valour. The ground floor of the Gate comprises the Exhibition space, and features four main galleries: the Entry, the Order, the Link, and the St. John Ambulance galleries.

Cultural Innovations joined the Project Team in March 2008. The role involved the management of the consultant team, the coordination of the HLF stage 2 bid, the administration of costs, and the execution of all procurement processes. The Museum of the Order of St John re-opened in early November 2010.
