As part of our work with the Massar Children’s Project, Cultural Innovations has been commissioned to develop a series of Regional Discovery Centres across Syria. Each RDC will be a dynamic venue for hosting touring exhibitions for young people. They will be unique in providing the first modern cultural and educational attractions for young Syrians in their country.
Massar has already opened the doors of its first Discovery Centre, with an interactive exhibition on the theme of sound and music. Visitors experiment with a wide range of activities from playing different instruments, recording and mixing sounds to learning about famous Syrian and international musicians. The second RDC will open in 2009. There, in dynamic, themed environments, visitors will be challenged to play the role of a news producer, stepping into realistic news environments to interview celebrities and experts, report the news on TV and pick front page news stories. The exhibition is designed to encourage young Syrian people to think more critically about the news media.
As part of our role, Cultural Innovations has developed toolkits for a suite of tourable and updatable exhibition furniture that can be produced from local materials by Syrian manufacturers. Massar will use the toolkit to replace exhibition content regularly into order to continually renew their offer.
