Heidenheim Abbey
Heidenheim Abbey
Heidenheim, Germany
Heidenheim is an old German market town in Bavaria, Southern Germany – the abbey at Heidenheim was founded in 752 AD by the Anglo-Saxon brothers Wunibald and Willibald, directly from the Anglo-Saxon church and remained a Benedictine monastery until the Reformation in 1537. The Abbey is located in a Nature Park and currently receives around 4,500 visitors (mainly pilgrims) per year.

Dr Rainer Tredt completed the feasibility study for Heidenheim Abbey in 2008 and together with Cultural Innovations has carried out a full project review to inform the next stages of the strategic development of this major renovation project. Current proposals include the development of additional exhibition space, an education centre, tourist information centre, research library and archive. In addition, the project also includes a new convent, chapel and overnight visitor accommodation.

Having reached the final concept stage, the project now awaits approval to proceed from the relevant authorities in Bavaria.
